Riposte Issue #1

Sale Price:£0.00 Original Price:£0.00

We open Issue #1 with reports on ideas from the world of design, technology, food, art and music. NTS Radio DJ, Throwing Shade studied ethnomusicology, her show is a place where she explores her passion for finding new sounds and recorded music from around the world. On any one show you can hear recordings of melodic rhythms from the natural world, played next to the incredible music of the Kalash people.

In our meetings section, we speak to the immense Nelly Ben Hayoun; art editor of the New Yorker, Françoise Mouly; lead singer of Best Coast Bethany Cosentino and set designer Es Devlin.

We dedicate a sixteen page monograph to the influential artist Linder in our Spotlight section.

In our Features section, we speak to those who knew the Grande Dame of Charing Cross Road - Claire de Rouen, such as David Bailey, Giles Deacon & Lucy Moore. Flora Wong looks at female music producers and why until recently, it has been a hugely male dominated industry, and Patternity talk to us about their ambition to make us happier through the power of pattern.

For our essay section, there's a close look at the women who programme some of the UK's top galleries & institutions and Joy Yoon throws the spotlight on two of the earliest and most influential computer programmers, Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper.

To close our first issue, photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis selects Carrie Mae Weems as her icon.
