IWD TAKE OVER

Throughout the 2020 IWD weekend, Riposte and friends will host exhibitions, workshops, installations, talks, intimate discussions and a launch party at London’s Ace Hotel that all explore the theme of Mother Nature.

With climate change at the top of the news agenda and at the forefront of our minds we want to dedicate a weekend to celebrating, honouring and discussing how we can protect ourselves and our natural environment.

Through talks and discussions, special guests and our audience will explore why we have lost our connection to nature and why we need to once again see ourselves as part of the natural world. We’ll embrace our own physical forms through poetry and art installations and there’ll be opportunities to get our hands dirty through creative workshops.

There’s so much going on over the weekend, all of the action is outlined below. We’ve tried to keep it free or as affordable as possible as we’d love to see as many of you as possible.

Book some tickets, drink some drinks, make some things and have some great chats.

FRIDAY 6 MARCH: IWD TAKE OVER LAUNCH PARTY

We’ll kick off the weekend with a party to unveil a nature-inspired window box installation and lobby exhibition by artist Dai Ruiz.

Drinks will flow and our favourite DJ’s will bring the party vibes until late. RSVP HERE.

SUNDAY 8 MARCH: IWD ALL-DAYER

Join Riposte & friends for an IWD all-dayer on the rooftop of the Ace Hotel followed by drinks and DJ’s in lobby.

Brunch in the Britannia Room will be followed by talks and discussions covering the following topics:

- Moving beyond the “hustle”

We’ve been sold the corporate feminist dream that we should always be hustling, always pushing our personal-brand, always be optimising and that to be a success we need to replicate the patriarchal capitalist model - but make it pink.

This panel will explore why this is actually the antithesis of empowerment, why it’s bad for our health (mental & physical) and bad for the environment. We’ll look at alternative models, and discuss the power of getting back to nature/doing nothing related to the attention economy.

- Sustainability: Innovation and solutions

As we enter the “decade of action” we bring together some of the best minds and influential people working within the sustainability movement to discuss where the solutions will come from across different industries. What are some of the positive stories we don’t hear about and what is going to make the biggest impact in dealing with climate change over the next ten years?

Coffee Break

- We Need to Talk About Ageing

Getting old is a natural part of life yet looking our age is one of the worst things that can happen to a woman. Constant messages and narratives in the media, TV & film tell us to revere youth and reject ageing. But why is the natural progression of time something so feared and maligned? What is driving this fear by and what impact is it having on our society? What would happen if we really celebrated older women and embraced the ageing process?

To explore these questions and more we will invite our guests to join smaller discussion groups of 7-8 people where conversations will be moderated and different questions around the theme will be discussed as a group.

After these sessions, we’ll invite everyone to join us for complimentary drinks on the rooftop and then in the lobby.

BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS EVENT. GET YOUR TICKETS HERE.

All profits from ticket sales will be donated to Global Green Grants with the Ace Hotel matching that donation.
